The ZeroStepBoarding system is a stepless boarding system that makes it easier for people with disabilities or heavy luggage to access trains.
Getting on and off the train is one of the most stressful parts of a train journey. Crowds and uneven access make boarding difficult, sometimes even impossible for people with limited mobility. More and more regulations are therefore calling for barrier-free boarding systems to ensure inclusion in public transport.

The IFE team developed a new entrance system for this purpose: ZeroStepBoarding. Instead of the brush used so far, which removes dirt from the ramp during the closing process, a walk-in, ramp-shaped scraper is used. The new sealing system is designed in a way that can build up sufficient pressure for the sealing function against pressure waves during train encounters or tunnel entrances, even without a direct counterpart on the sloping door threshold. In the high-speed application, ZeroStepBoarding is designed for up to 6 kPA.
The combination of the newly designed scraper and the further developed sealing function makes it possible to keep the height of the door threshold at a maximum of 9 mm, while the inclination of the threshold is less than 18% or 10.2° in accordance with TSI-PRM. The system does not require any additional active elements (such as folding sealing brackets, lifting steps, or inflatable seals) and has higher availability and reliability due to the lower complexity.
Designed in particular for the proven E3D-e1 boarding system for intercity and high-speed trains, this technology can also be integrated into other systems in the IFE portfolio.
